From what I have seen of California so far I am surprised at how
mountainous it is and very hilly even in big cities like San Francisco
and Los Angeles. I suppose it is normal for a big city, but I am still
surprised at how dense the buildings are. There does not seem to be such
things as yards around where we've been so far. The traffic is
incredible...even last night, Sunday night, it took us over an hour and a
half to get across town... It was stop and go. I am glad Roger is an
experienced driver.
We spent the
night in Dublin just east of San Francisco as we could stay there much
cheaper than in San Francisco. This morning we crossed the Oakland
bridge and went north of San Francisco about 30 minutes to Muir Woods
National Monument and walk through part of the redwood forest.
Then we
drove across the Golden Gate Bridge in a fog and went by Gharardelli
Square to sample their chocolate and we drove up to the top of Lombard
Street and drove down and took some pictures. We drove up the hill where
the Ciot Tower was overlooking the city but it was still too foggy to
get a good view of the Golden Gate Bridge.
We did get some cool shots
of Alcatraz from there though. We tried find some place to park so we
could ride the trolley but were unsuccessful. We did drive through
Chinatown in the process. We had both had enough of the traffic by then
so we decided to go to the IKEA we had passed earlier that day and had
lunch and did some shopping there.
