Sunday in Santa Fe

Sunday, September 15th, we went to Calvary Baptist Church in Santa Fe. It was a small but friendly church. After lunch, we went northwest about 45 minutes hoping to see Bandelier National Monument which protects over 33,000 acres of rugged but beautiful canyon and mesa country as well as evidence of a human presence here going back over 11,000 years.  Petroglyphs, dwellings carved into the soft rock cliffs, and standing masonry walls pay tribute to the early days of a culture that still survives in the surrounding communities. Unfortunately, because of the recent rains we were not able to go all the way in because of flooding but we enjoyed the drive around the perimeter. Here are a few pictures to give you a taste of the beauty, though pictures don't really do it justice as part of the beauty is the bigness of it all. (click on pictures to enlarge)
